Materials and Construction
The step is built from aluminum alloy with a carbon fiber face. Both materials resist corrosion and rust, which matters for a part that lives on the outside of the vehicle and gets stood on in the rain.
The stepping surface is solid enough to push off from when you are reaching for a roof rack, and the load path runs into the hinge rather than into a bracket that flexes under weight.
Design Details
The contours follow the line of the body instead of sitting proud of it. Closed, it reads as a small dark panel on the hinge. Open, it is a flat platform with enough surface area for a boot.
We spent the design time on the fold mechanism, because that is the part that decides whether you actually use the step.
Installation
Installation is reversible. The step clamps to the existing hinge, so nothing on the door or the body gets drilled, cut or welded, and the factory hardware stays untouched.
